OKAY i just want to scream about the Fifteenth Doctor for a sec!! 🔥
Tumblr media
spoilers for Joy to the World (the 2024 Doctor Who Christmas special); read at your own risk!!
so many thoughts about this fun, goofy, absurd episode and what a good old-fashioned Doctor Who romp it is, but i desperately want to talk about that harrowing scene where the Doctor purposefully angers Joy. to preface, my favourite Doctors are Six and Eleven. i love my Doctor with a little mean, arrogant streak, so seeing Fifteen's bright, cheery, complimentary façade slip away into overt malice was so much fun, and Ncuti does it so well!!! even though we all knew he was trying to break the Villengard's hold on Joy, getting to see his capacity for cruelty, grandiosity and harm is my favourite thing about the character. and it's one of the things that stands out about Moffat's characterisation of the Doctor: he isn't afraid to write him as an alien being with powers who could hurt us if he decided it was for our own good. the revelation that the Doctor was able to say those nasty things about Joy with such realistic venom because it's how he feels about, and treats, himself...ouch. this many regenerations in and Fifteen is just as mixed-up and angry as he's always been, but with a fresh wave of losses weighing heavily on his ancient mind. the Doctor always feels the most interesting to me when he's preoccupied with his own responsibilities not dealing with it well...because that's what makes his companions, and humanity as a whole, matter. when you think about the best companions and human characters in the show, they are always the ones who are able to make the Doctor pause and take stock in the middle of his (extremely understandable) moral crises. the ones who can say, 'yeah, what you've gone through is seriously messed up, but here's how i carry on. here's why you should keep living'. that's why the Doctor keeps coming back to us: we're an emotional anchor for him in a way it seems no other species is. both Joy and Anita showed the Doctor new ways of continuing on even when he's feeling so much loss after Ruby's departure...and i really want a companion who can challenge the Doctor's self-hatred in a constructive way, while we see how the Doctor really feels beneath that mask. just!!!! so many thoughts about Fifteen!! is it bizarre that i vastly prefer his portrayal in Joy to the World and Boom compared to, say, The Legend of Ruby Sunday and Empire of Death? it's possible i do just enjoy the way Moffat writes the Doctor in general, but god, when it's the Doctor i want his age and the enormity of his emotional burden to come across 😭💖

wanderer saying that [name] is dottores "little pet" is so funny to me bc if you think about its the other way around
like he would actually do anything for you, with complaining some most times but yk
like a segment could be researching and they walk in, he turns into a damn puppy and just starts focusing on them while not really looking at what hes doing
you are really special, its not often any version of dottore lets go of their focus when experimenting
luv ya
Many people marvel at your ability to have the Doctor in the palm of your hand, but to you, who has been with him for so long, don't think much of it. Every time an agent or another Harbinger brings up how powerful you must be to have the segments so attentive toward you, you kind of just smile and shrug it off. Because it's just very normal to you but also extremely abnormal to others. You do suppose it's a bit jarring for others to see a segment that had worked for twenty seven hours straight, refusing to be bothered by anything, suddenly perk up and drag you in for some much-needed recharge (and then go back to work.) It's no wonder rule fifteen in the handbook is to retrieve you if a certain segment is acting out (Webby.)
But his behavior also gives you a bit of an ego boost for obvious reasons, I mean, who wouldn't get a bit puffed up having such a man at your beck and call? Of course, the segments don't do this much when others are around, because they will not be the subject of gossip for the agents and the Damselette, but well, they're not always successful. They have a very specific image to uphold - they can't be seen with you squishing and kissing their cheeks. However, it's not like anyone will have the gall to comment on you feeding him your latest sweet creation.
You don't really care about people who think otherwise or have their own misconstrued version of your relationship, they can talk all they want. In fact, some of the stories are so wild it makes you laugh, and you share them with Dottore, detailing how evil and heinous he is to keep you trapped with him. But really, all that matters to you is the love you have for each other, that no one else needs to understand.

How to use Christianity to defend being Queer to other Christians:
Please note, I write this as someone with an honorary doctorate in Divinity from ULC. I was raised by a Catholic mother and Jewish stepfather and my chosen faith is Wiccan. However, much to the surprise of some, I actually have read The Bible. And I have read up on the history of The Bible. Now, here's how to use Christianity to defend Queer people against those who use The Bible to preach hate.
Let us begin.
First Matthew 7:1-6 tells us "Do not judge lest ye shall be judged." The most common interpretation of this is that no human as a right to say with certainty who is damned or not, nor should you attempt to judge the actions or personality of others or such judgements might be made against you. Similarly "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone." - John 8:7-11 is supposed to tell you that no one is perfect and anyone is capable of fault or failing.
Now let us discuss Leviticus. Leviticus is the part of The Bible where most anti-homosexual content is cited. But conveniently people forget that Leviticus also says it is a sin to eat pork, women should never cut their hair, men should never wear more than one type of fabric at the same time, you cannot grow more than one type of crop on your property, and finally.... Shrimp is an abomination.
Seems weird that people cherry pick the anti-homosexual content when Leviticus treats shrimp as a far worse offender. It's literally called an abomination.
"Love one another." John 13:34-35 was said as a new command. And it had no exceptions.
"Love thy neighbor."
Now let us break down the story of Sodom and Gomorrah. Everyone seems to forget there was a lot more going on in Sodom than homosexuality. There was murder, rape, inhospitality... (which is a big deal to Old World society).
The word "Sodomy" used to mean ANY sexual act that was not between a married couple with the man on top with the sole purpose of procreation. All pleasurable sexual acts were considered Sodomy until around the thirteenth century when the word's meaning changed to specifically mean homosexual activity between two men.
Now let is discuss King James. The King James Bible is the most widely used English language version of The Bible and almost every other English adaptation of The Bible is just using the King James Bible as the source.
Here's the thing though, The King James Bible is NOT an accurate translation. Shocking, I know. Think of it as like text being driven through Google translate, then translated to another language from that translation, and then that Translation is used to translate it again, and this is done over and over again about fifteen times.
Even "A man should not lay with another man as he would with a woman" was apparently once in Greek and was more accurately "A man should not lay with a boy." The two words were not the same. It was anti-pedophilia rather than anti-gay.
And The King James Bible isn't even a direct translation of a translation of a translation. Politics and social norms influenced what stories were changed, cut out, or even added.
King James had a "Secret" relationship with a male cousin that he kept in a private room attached to his own bedroom and treated like a consort or wife.
So the clergy of King James added extra anti-homosexual content to try to discourage the king and his lover. They considered his gender more of a problem than his being King James' cousin.
They also made edits and changes to make the Bible stories "More exciting" and "engaging" to keep King James and the general public interested in reading it. This was in the year 1610 through 1611. And it is still the most common English language version of The Bible.
History Channel's "Banned from The Bible" documentary series actually covers a LOT about what was changed.
And I give an argument that was once presented to me. Jesus said "I have come to free you from the law." Now many think this was in regard to Roman law but other interpretations suggest this was in regard to the Old Testament. It's part of why Christian practices differ so heavily from Jewish even though The Old Testament (in theory) should be identical to The Torah.
Spoiler: it's not. That's all it was supposed to be though, it's The Torah, that's why it's the OLD Testament.
There are actually over ten times as many condemnations against heterosexual relationships than gay ones in The Bible.
And now, finally, my favorite argument on why The Bible is not actually anti-queer.
First Corinthians 13:4-8. "Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres."
And "When all else is lost there is Faith, Hope, and Love. But the greatest of these is Love."
Love is described as the highest and purest virtue. Nothing that is actually of or for true and pure love (not just lust but love) can be perceived as a sin. By The Bible's own account, all love is Godly.
So unless you think all homosexuality is purely lust, you have to acknowledge the love as a virtue. Otherwise one could claim heterosexual love must always just be lust.
And you will notice the passage does not specify that it has to be platonic love. It's pretty blunt and to the point. Love is the greatest virtue.

so ok the thing about rogue is that obvs im on the aroace doctor choo-choo train, but also i think this may genuinely be the first time ive felt like the doctor does have some kinda smthinsmthin chemistry in a specific way that is different to how i see the-doctor-and-rose or the-doctor-and-yaz or the-doctor-and-river (the latter especially is Complicated for me on multiple fronts) (there's also the-doctor-and-jack which is a whole other kettle of fish, but of course rogue and jack have... certain similarities) (like what would happen if this doctor met jack?????)
in fact the person that ive personally felt the doctor has that kind of connection with is... themself. that is, fourteen and fifteen, and even to an extent ten when they met jackson-thinking-he-was-the-doctor
and also with the master
there's also the-doctor-and-the-tardis, which, again, whole other dealio, but i think in terms of closeness and type of relationship sits the closest perhaps....
so there's something there to unpack in terms of: a. rogue and the doctor and where that relationship sits in the grand scheme of the doctors' relationships b. fifteen's relationships with people vs the other doctors' relationships with people c. rogue introduced almost as a version of the doctor (he's undercover looking for mischief, he takes the doctor's hand, makes some very difficult decisions, etc) and how that connects to the doctor's relationship with themself d. how does it work in comparison to the doctor + the master e. how does this work in a wider read that is specifically aroace and takes into account an a-spectrum across all the doctors

The Legend of Ruby Sunday
Well that was certainly dramatic! A lot of questions answered, but more questions created. It's hard to have a conclusive opinion on this episode because it's so definitively only half of the story, but I certainly had fun throughout. There were lots of really funny bits of dialogue and good character moments, and a lot of drama.
I'd seen a couple of people speculating about Sutekh but I hadn't looked into why and, although I have watched The Pyramids of Mars, I don't remember an awful lot of what goes on in it! From what I recall, he wasn't that impressive a villain so the huge majesty and fanfare he's presented with here is quite interesting. He was a guy with a silly mask on in the 70s and here he's a somewhat ugly CGI dog, but I'm open to seeing how they connect these two versions of the character.
So, we have several people, all women, running around at the moment who have something to do with the mystery. 1) There's Ruby's birth mother. Why can't they see her face? Why was she pointing? 2) Mrs Flood, who turns out to be pretty unpleasant if she's refusing Cherry a cup of tea. Unlike the two I'm about to mention, she seemed to know what was coming and obviously about the TARDIS (and the camera) from the christmas special. 3) Harriet Arbinger, who is a harbinger of Sutekh. 4) Susan Twist, who is... another harbinger of Sutekh? It seems like Kate's chrysalis theory was right with her, at least. Does she serve the same role as Harriet? Is the little boy who was Maestro's harbinger have anything to do with either of them or did he just serve the same role?
Sutekh is apparently the mother and father and other of the gods, which could mean a bunch of things. For one it implies variation of gender, or at least an existence outside of it, which is interesting with the he/him pronouns and yet all these women who seem wrapped up with the plot, as well as the ongoing theme of abandoned children. Carla also called him the Beast before he'd even fully manifested, which of course brought to mind The Impossible Planet/The Satan Pit, especially with the soldier who died saying he was in hell. Probably no connection, but who knows! He is also specifically name checked as being Set and Seth from Egyptian mythology. What does it all mean!
Also, how did Sutekh latch onto the TARDIS in the first place? Does the fact that the Doctor mallet whacked the TARDIS to double it in The Giggle have anything to do with the present situation? I didn't like that at the time because she's a living being and he just cloned her(?) or split her(?) or something, but now I'm thinking it would make sense if it connects to how she got infested with Sutekh in the first place.
Speaking of the TARDIS-Sutekh connection, I loved that the TARDIS anagram was so obvious the UNIT team laughed at the Doctor explaining it, which makes the "wrong anagram" reveal even better. RTD knew the fans would work out the TARDIS anagram immediately (which they did) and that it would be a red herring for us just as much as for UNIT! Though not that much of a red herring, since the TARDIS is involved. Is it perhaps a little silly to create your evil secret corporation under a name that might give away your evil secret plan? Yeah, but I like it at the moment.
I'm so glad Susan Triad isn't Susan Foreman (at least, it seems that way). It's another big old red herring. I've been desperate for Susan to return for so long - and I would still love her to, and maybe she even will in this arc - but I don't want her to return like this! Not as a villain and not as someone other than Carole Ann Ford. While we still have her, let her play Susan again! Please!
I am fascinated by this stuff about the Doctor having her before having children... It's been established in the past that the Doctor did have children and that he lost them all (eg. in The Doctor's Daughter), but here Fifteen seems to be implying that he hasn't yet. How does that all add up? I love the idea of having children out of order, and have always somewhat rebelled at the assumption that Time Lords have children in the same way as humans (ie. sexual reproduction between two parents of "opposite" sexes). Gimme Looms or something equally bizarre or nothing, so I'm definitely down for this; I just wonder how it actually makes sense for the Doctor.
I'm so happy to see Rose again! Obviously we knew she'd be in this, but she's a great character and I adored her dynamic with Ruby. Very cute! I loved the Doctor's line about them being two shades of red. I hope they'll develop the stuff of her not being given much to do, as I guess basically a nepotism hire, because I want her to get to do exciting things! On that note, it is odd if she's so kept out of things that she stays in the room after everyone who is not necessary is made to leave. I know she's necessary in that she's a UNIT employee who is important to us, the viewers, but it doesn't quite make sense with what is apparently her role in the organisation.
Saving perhaps the most interesting for last, the CCTV of the night Ruby was abandoned was 66 metres away. Otherwise known as 73 yards. My ears pricked up the moment they said that, though I needed to check afterwards that they were the same, and that surely can't be a coincidence. I don't know if I need anything more about 73 yards, despite my many questions at the end of it, but it could be very interesting if the events of that episode have something to do with the bigger picture.
Overall, fun and engaging episode in its own right, but I'll have to withhold final judgement until next week!
Misc things
Rose says it's been ages since she last saw the Doctor, so we're a while after the specials. Also there was mention of 2004 being 19 years ago so we're currently in 2023.
It's interesting we have two characters in this story (Susan and Rose) who are named after important companions, each the original companion of their run of Doctor Who.
I love that the Trickster got a mention. So many people seemed convinced the Trickster would be the big bad coming up, but at least he got a name check.
I loved Carla's energy in this one! True Donna vibes. She only had to hear of the existence of Rose's mum at UNIT and decided she was also going to be involved.
Susan Triad says she remembers worlds with orange skies, which certainly sounds like Gallifrey, so could there be a Susan connection after all? I noted down that her father was a postman and her mother a dinner lady, but so far have gleaned nothing from this.
I love Lenny Rush! I've seen him in lots of things at this point and he's so charismatic and funny, especially for a fifteen year old. I hope Morris will stay on for a while yet!
It seems strange that UNIT didn't know about Susan (Foreman), since I'm pretty sure we've seen in the past that they have files on all the Doctors, including One.

Doctor Who Headcanon Lists—Gender/Sexuality Version
I guess I'm just in a list mood this week. Also keep in mind the age one took me three tries to be happy with, so it is subject to change
*Note: I'm not including gender preferences in the sexualities here because I don't think Time Lords work like that. So I guess in a sense any versions that aren't aro ace are inherently bi, but only insofar as there's no reason they'd be into one gender over another.
One: he still has mostly Time Lord concepts of gender—not much of one—and sexuality—none at all. But he is immediately entranced by humans, and though he has no interest in or understanding of sex, he is interested in gender and romance as curiosities. Hence flirting occasionally and identifying more or less as a man, but in a novelty sort of way.
Two: is more curious than disgusted by sex, but has little real interest in it. Does have a slightly better grasp of romance by this point and has a clumsy but sweet relationship with Jamie. No connection to gender whatsoever and lets people assume whatever.
Three: more or less a man, but a bit to the left. Completely aro ace with no interest in either, which annoys the hell out of the Master who is thoroughly in love with him.
Four: never gives gender a second thought. Just doesn't care about it. Did try sex but hated it. Probably closest to demiromantic. Has an on-again-off-again romance with the Master, and eventually a very Time Lord version of romance with Romana, with much the same vibes as Romana will later have with Leela/Narvin/Brax—it's hard to pin down what they are, but they are their whole world.
Five: a woman but a little to the left. Completely aro but only mostly ace—has an ongoing dalliance with the Master, though he would swear he doesn't like sex, really, and if he did it wouldn't be with him. Until next time.
Six: incredibly nonbinary. Completely aro. Not completely ace but has a particular arrogance about how he—a Time Lord!—ought to be above it, so doesn't really do it much. Is a little more ace than he realizes.
Seven: tbd, still getting there.
Eight: aro allo. This one fucks. A lot. Also nonbinary, but in a fairly masc way.
War: there's a war on, he doesn't have time for gender, romance, or sex!
Nine: no connection to gender. No time or energy to think about identity. Disgusted by sex and romance.
Ten: man-adjacent. Completely ace. Something like greyromantic—not disgusted by it but barely a passing interest, and no one ever comes along he really wants a relationship with.
Eleven: he's a man, as much as a Time Lord can be. Completely ace. Not remotely aro. Actually has a number of short relationships, plus of course marries River. Yes I know him being ace is the opposite of what a lot of people got from him, but every single time someone kisses him he seems disgusted, and even later with River it always seems to surprise and unnerve him and he more allows it than wanting it.
Twelve: identifies as a grumpy old man specifically. For once completely allo and into both River and Missy.
Thirteen: nonbinary. Back to being allo ace, and definitely into Yaz romantically. I like shippy media of them, but in actual headcanons I like the idea that she isn't in any kind of place to have a healthy relationship so it's mostly just pining.
Fourteen: allo aro. He also fucks, once he starts to heal a bit. Learns about the nuances of gender from Rose and gets really into microlabels. Maybe even uses neopronouns later.
Fifteen: nonbinary and knows about pronouns now so uses he/they. All-around allo again, but doesn't randomly fuck or go on dates that much. Just open to it.

Here's the first Moodboard!
Donna + Doctor eternal besties! It takes time, but The Doctor and Donna settle into not their previous routine that's gone, it can never come back, but something better, evolved, and more grounded than it had been before. The Doctor finds in Donna a friend, who won't be afraid to call him out on his bullshit look he's been an expert in the art of bullshiting his way out of a situation, But will also listen to him when he slowly opens up about what went down when they parted ways, all those years ago. And Donna find in the Doctor a best friend, a pillar of support from someone who has always and will always believe in her. It's everything they've both been missing all those years they'd been apart. Donna may have a husband and daughter, but she always knew that there was someone missing from her life, a hole that she could never fill. Now that the doctor, her partner in crime, is back, she never wants to lose him again. And the doctor has always been of the same mind. He doesn't know what would happen if he were to lose Donna, and he's scared to found out.
I like to imagine that when Donna "dies" they find out that she's actually gained the ability to regenerate. Fourteen stays with her until it's time for him to regenerate into Fifteen, and they've promised to meet up at a specific time/place as soon as fifteen has sowed his wild oats, so to speak. (This of course also means that Rose has gained the same ability... ~It's like a whole thing, because I just really want Donna to have a chance to punch the Master in the face - any version of the master tbh. It would heal my soul).

I want to hear more about Zero Year Riddler being kind of a loser, please.
Zero Year Riddler is Actually A Nerdy Dork-Ass and I Have Evidence
aka at max ten pictures from the comic books. I apologize now that I had to get selective with photos and that these photos I took myself because I'm too lazy to scan. Includes hcs based on the canon stuff.
TW: Spoilers for Batman: Zero Year also known as Zero Year - Secret City and Zero Year - Dark City
We are going to be jumping around a little with these pictures. So the most basic/stripped down timeline- Edward sets off a massive plot w/ Doctor Death to first black out the City of Gotham while he prepares the Big Guns. Weather balloons filled with toxins to ensure no one is getting in or out of Gotham. He floods the city. Tells the surviving citizens that if they all want to get out, they have to give him a riddle he cannot solve. If you think that last part sounds very folk-lore or fairy tale like, YOU WOULD BE RIGHT. This period where he's setting up this challenge is the titular Zero Year. He is set up inside the Sphinx display in the Gotham History Museum. Batman stops him. onto the actual discussion.
Tumblr media
We are first going to start with his introduction. I've discussed this before in a different post but this is meant to tell you multiple things. He has fifteen degrees he's earned. He makes conspiracy theory string boards. He is a dweeb who wears pocket protectors. The important thing to note story wise is that most of the points in this board are important/have a specific role in the story. He's correct about them. They matter. You might be saying "ok Fox/Belle but how does this say he's a nerdy dork-ass?"
look at him. He's described as being "boastful and annoyingly egotistical, but socially he's an egghead." This is not a man who plays well with others. But he genuinely thinks of himself as someone better than everyone else. What do you get? A smokescreen of theatrics, egotism and showing off to hide how socially inept he is.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Next, and sorry the first picture didn't turn out as well as I'd hoped. This is the first meeting of Edward and Bruce Wayne. Of course Edward has already plotted his death. Will try to enact this plot. The page with the snake is a reference to the ancient Egyptian game of Mehen which Edward mentions in passing earlier in the story. Historians currently don't know much about the game other than it's distinctive board- However here it becomes a parallel to Ouroboros. The snake that eats it's own tail. Its known as an alchemy symbol and spiritually represents the unity of all things. Life, Death, Rebirth. In Edward's mind: destruction and rising from ashes aka Gotham in his plans.
The second is post Zero Year, telling the citizens of Gotham his motivations. This is his monologue showing his warped version of the Hero's Journey. The Hero's Journey for those who don't know is a very old archetype on which many fictional stories are all based on (whether they realize it or not.) In it's simplest terms, a hero goes on an adventure. The hero through trauma and hardship, learns a lesson, wins their "boon" and returns home with newfound knowledge that transformed them as a person. Note this sounds kind of similar to the Ouroboros thing, doesn't it?
Edward wants to leave a mark and transform Gotham. Potentially the world. He wants control he never had growing up. He wants all of it.
On the headcanon end... This information combined with his hyperfixation on mythology (mentioned below), this man plays tabletop. Hear me out. God complex. Verbose. Theatrics. Obsession with heroics, the heroes journey and folklore... this man not only plays DnD, he has been a GM countless times. I think he'd play other tabletops as well, but DnD is his bread and butter.
His main race (in traditional) is a gnome because of the intelligence stats. When he does DM/GM, the story is rich and so fucking detailed. He is also mean as hell and will murder all your characters in emotionally devastating ways if you get unlucky. He'll never admit any of this to people he finds cool or too attractive (unless they get to know him first). He has a strong wall up to try and prevent any weakness or vulnerability to show through.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He likes fun facts. Not just about mythology he is the one who spits out statistical data and random fun facts in regular discussion. It's almost compulsive. At another part of the comic where he almost shoots Lucius Fox dead via robot, he states the statistical probability that he was already hit with a bullet, but to reload and shoot again anyways. Then he is in the middle of telling a trivia fact about foxes before Batman comes in to save Lucius.
This feeds into my headcanon that he's neurodivergent. And also was a Jeopardy fanatic as a child. Probably still is. He likes to impress (especially dates) with the knowledge he can pull from seemingly nowhere. Also if you haven't gotten the impression yet, he cannot and will not stop talking. Loves the sound of his own damn voice. You know he's monologued himself to trouble multiple times. Also note how smoothly he's just glossing over his shitty dad/abusive childhood (again.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Piggybacking on the last point- He has a special interest (read: potentially hyperfixation) on mythology and folklore. On multiple occasions he mentions these stories in passing as an anecdote for the events currently happening around him. Archimedes was a greek mathematician in ancient Sicily. He invented a great many things and would come to be known as one of the leading scientists of classical antiquity. The story Edward references is a rather famous one- Archimedes invented complex pulley systems and was tasked to prove the strength and ingenuity of these pulleys by moving the Syracusia, a luxury cruise ship, in and out of the water.
The second he mentions the story of the Gordian Knot. The tale goes as such: Alexander the Great's time. Whoever could untie the Gordian Knot was said to be destined to rule all of Asia. No one could solve it. The knot was impeccable. It was complex. Alexander the Great showed his great mental genius by doing what no one else had done. He cut the knot. There's more to it but that's the gist. That's the why of why Edward looks to this story and remembers it.
Everything about The Riddler of Zero Year is about proving his intelligence. Creating a name and a culture enveloped with smarts. If we didn't have the lore associated with Egyptian mythology as well, I'd say ancient Greece is his topic of choice but I think he likes all of it. That said, this man likes historical movies, historical texts, museums. If you take him to a museum or any kind of zoo or aquarium, he's going to talk your ear off on what he already knows for at least several hours. Are you impressed? Please be impressed. Tell him how smart he is and praise him like your favorite house cat.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The final pictures with actual analysis. These might seem silly or a rather insignificant detail to zoom in on.
This is him setting off the triggers to flood the city. Note the suitcase. He says this out loud to no one but himself. His own joke that only he gets to laugh at. Then he LITERALLY walks away whistling. A lot of this kind of behavior feeds into him knowing and being so smug about how clever he is. He's watching dozens upon dozens of citizens who have no idea what is going to happen to them, running in fear. And he's focused only on how gleeful he is that it's all coming together.
In the second: this is the final trial. Batman saving the city of Gotham and Riddler getting to have his big villain moment. And from the moment he reveals the lightshow of lasers ready to cut down our hero at will- he begins playing with his cane and hat. To the point that Batman is almost panicked for him to stop and just ask the damn questions.
These both run to one point and that's to him, this is all a game. We don't know this in the story yet, but he has an additional failsafe to blow the city up even if Batman wins (he doesn't expect him to, but he always makes sure to be a step ahead in case). He's lighthearted because, despite his curiosity around Batman and being constantly surprised that Batman keeps surviving, he considers this chess game match and set. His own arrogance supersedes the idea that Batman could be a genuine hero willing to take all the risk to save these people.
Riddler says to "get smart or die." Edward does not expect someone to do just that and more. For these the behaviors are more dorky vs the actual analysis but you get the point.
Tumblr media
Bonus: we get the full picture that he constantly has a crown image above his screen in Gotham Square during Zero Year. Sir, Why Are You Like This? A lot of this comes down to: please give him attention he is so desperate for attention and probably physical affection. He's starving for it.
If you actually read through all of this, I'm love you and I hope you're having a fantastic day. Thank you for taking the time to listen to my rambling.

I got tagged by @accidentallylita (whom I can't tag, for some reason? TUMBLR.) for a "(nine) people I'd like to get to know better", and since I have five minutes I'm doing this right now!
Last song: a customer/service user (I work at a library) needed help putting and taking songs off her iPod the other day, and since she had some Man of La Mancha (or rather L'homme de la Mancha, the French version with Jacques Brel) songs on it she reminded me of the Quantum Leap episode where Scott Bakula gets to show off his pipes on a few songs from it 💜 There's a medley on YT and it's criminal that we never got a full musical with him as Don Quixote!
Favourite colour: purple 💜
Currently watching: I figured a rewatch of Avatar the Last Airbender (the cartoon) was overdue, so that's what I'm watching on my lunch breaks in between "how to DM" videos on YT. Although we're also watching the last Doctor Who specials with the Best Beloved (only one left, the first real Fifteen episode) and we love it.
Spicy/savoury/sweet: sweet and savoury and not too spicy.
Relationship status: basically married for the past two decades.
Current obsession: Critical Role, and more specifically Vox Machina (and more specifically that fucking bard *shakes fist*)
Tagging @myrling-art, @general-sleepy, @lizardlycrimes, @laurelindebear, @margotstjust545, @strivia, @kcytna, @tinydooms and @kabbal :o)

Do you have any other wishes for GMMTV part 2 aside from the mandatory slow burn?
[TAKES OUT HER WISHLIST] ANON HOW MUCH TIME DO YOU HAVE
all jokes aside, i honestly do have way too many wishes when it comes to what i want to see from GMMTV and most of them are very hyperspecific, so instead of giving you just an endless list of whatever random ideas or pairings i’d like to get (which is maybe more appropriate for a bingo card or something like that), i kinda condensed it all into some more general categories (sort of. a couple fo these are still pretty specific ;;;;;;;;)
anyway, here we go!!!!
1. WOMEN. literally my top wish after anything jimmysea related is MORE. WOMEN. like srsly give me viewjune as the main pairing in a GL!!!!!!!! give me sizzy in any combination!!!!!!!! give me women centring shows where the women actually get treated as the main characters!!!!!!!! give me the GL version of series like only friends and we are where the women get to be silly and nasty!!!!!!!!! give me jamie kissing women as a treat to me specifically!!!!!!!!! GIVE. ME. WOMEN.
2. historical QL. after the success of i feel you linger in the air and with both idolfactory and domundi working on releasing historical QLs in the near future, i think it’s about time GMMTV also gives us a proper one. possibly with no time travel or reincarnation involved, for once
3. plot driven QL. this is kinda tied to my wish for an actual slow burn and partly to the following point as well, but i do desperately wish we could get a QL series where the romance is obviously still there, but it’s not the main focus of the show, or at least not the only one. something like manner of death or triage, where the romance just happens along the way as the story unfolds. i think the closest GMMTV got to it was with not me, but it would be nice to get more, even if i know this is not everyone’s cup of tea
4. some variety please for the love of god. look, i know we’re never gonna get rid of school settings and office romances, so it’s pointless to wish to have none of those, but i do desperately need a bit more diversity. of the fifteen series announced in part 1, seven of them are set in school. SEVEN. that’s basically half of the offer they’re giving. and okay, if we consider only the QL shows then the ratio is better (3 out of 9), but still. give me thriller shows, give me horror shows, give me fantasy shows, give me sci-fi shows, give me jobs that aren’t just office workers or chefs, give me mystery, give me crime, give me cashiers and doctors and detectives and firefighters and taxi drivers and teachers and librarians and waiters and bartenders and mechanics and lawyers and flight attendants and therapists and farmers and hairdressers and reporters, JUST!!!!!!!!! explore something new!!!!!!!! take some risks!!!!!!!! i know GMMTV as a company is not as big as we think it is and that it focuses on teens and new generation audiences, but i don’t think younger people want to see students and office workers exclusively……
5. QL exploring other sexualities and gender identities. just give me ace main characters, trans main characters, non-binary main characters, ALL THE DIFFERENT QUEER MAIN CHARACTERS!!!!!!!
6. pepper/papang/guy/podd in any combination as a main pairing in a QL. love and light to all the rookies but if GMMTV doesn’t give these men some main roles im gonna start committing grand scale larceny to cope

Cradle of the Snake Part 2: Adventures of the Mara!Doctor
So, I took a fuckton of screenshots for this and I had to cut it to just fifteen, most of them being Turlough and the Mara!Doctor. Time to overanalyze some dialogue!
When last we left our heroes, the Doctor was fully taken over by the Mara and is now trying to spread its influence to some of the locals. The script directions try to explain what the Mara is actually doing when it possesses someone:
Tumblr media
So, Mara!Doctor is supposed to be the dark side of the Doctor? Mara!Doctor is mostly just Obviously Evil in general, so I don't really know what this means here. Hopefully, we'll find out as we go.
Mara!Doctor tries to turn Tegan against Nyssa. This has no strategic benefit for it. The Mara is Chaotic Evil and just wants to cause more problems.
Tumblr media
Mara!Doctor shoos Tegan away and then uses the Mark of the Snake to traumatize the cab driver. But, the cab driver's not important, so he doesn't get possessed.
Tumblr media
The Mara specifically wants this entertainer/mad scientist named Rick to join him, but he has to get through the boy working for him, Baala. It doesn't work because Baala is special, as we'll learn later.
Tumblr media
The Mara looks for some Darkest Dreams to close in on, but he's got nothing and has to take a break from recruiting the locals.
Meanwhile, Dadda, a sort of snakecharmer priest, uses his evil-detecting snake on the Doctor's companions to clarify that none of them are under the Mara's influence at this moment in time. Something was up with Tegan, but it's gone now, Nyssa is fine, and Turlough apparently gave Dadda some bad vibes but the snake is cool with him.
Tumblr media
Turlough is sent to look for the Doctor, giving me something better to do than just recap the plot with a few screenshots thrown in. There's no particular reason Turlough had to be the one that left. It could've just as easily have been Tegan or Nyssa who left to search for the Doctor, so the Mara would've had to have been ready for any of them. Mara!Doctor was watching the whole snake thing at a safe distance, since the snake would sense evil on him.
I must once again emphasize that Mara!Doctor is Obviously Evil. There is something obviously wrong here. His voice and speech patterns are different. There's something really obviously "off" about him, that none of his companions seem able to immediately identify. Tegan thought he was acting weird earlier, but in a "in a bit of a bad mood" sense that was easy to dismiss. Turlough doesn't even notice that.
Tumblr media
This leads into the reoccurring theme of temptation with the Mara. Mara!Doctor suggests that Turlough forget about Nyssa and Tegan and go have some fun at the fair instead. It's a very "Sunday School PSA" sort of temptation. "Ditch your responsibilities and go have fun instead".
Tumblr media
The Mara!Doctor, while still being Obviously Evil and Not the Doctor, actually does manipulate Turlough here by singling him out. The Doctor's being secretive and Only Turlough Knows, because he can keep a secret, right? Turlough's not usually the trusted confidant, so this is a positive change. The Doctor trusts him. After all the Black Guardian stuff, Turlough wants to be trusted.
So, Turlough is worn down by this special attention he's getting. The Doctor wants him to be involved in Secret Business that the girls aren't in on and now they're going to spend some quality time together at the fair.
So, we're off to the fair! The Doctor wins a carnival game, but he still believes the game was rigged against him and gets upset, even though he won.
As for the Doctor's Dark Side, this feels like a petty version of the Doctor's sense of justice. This is unfair so it has to be stopped. He also brags about how clever he is. Five's one of the less arrogant Doctors, but the Doctor commenting on his own intelligence isn't exactly uncommon.
Tumblr media
I would love to know what kind of Giant Cuddly alien animal that toy is. For some reason my own mental image of it is off an octopus. It can cuddle you back, I guess. I'm weird.
Mara!Doctor casually hands the prize off to Turlough, who doesn't act like he's carrying a giant stuffed animal throughout the rest of the story, so he most likely abandoned it somewhere. I would be mad about the stuffed animal neglect, but there's too much going on here to stop for that. I hope someone gave it a home.
Mara!Doctor looks for more problems to cause and Turlough tries to keep up. He goes on a bit of an evil rant.
Tumblr media
Turlough's response to just being asked what he wants is interesting. "I thought this was our night on the town". Mara!Doctor asking Turlough what he wants isn't a contradiction of it being their night on the town. It could even be interpreted as "What do you want to do next?" or "Want me to buy you something?". From Mara!Doctor's tone, he clearly means it in a more "tell me all your hopes and dreams" sense, but it's still an odd response. What Turlough wants and this being their night out are correlated.
This night out, this quality time with the Doctor, was what Turlough wanted. Now he has it, but it's all wrong, because it's not really the Doctor he's out with.
Turlough falls back on having learned to accept things. And the words in context with his last line feel like "It turns out that what I want is impossible, but I'm settling for what you'll give me."
The Doctor, as himself, taught Turlough to be thankful for what he has, but this whole experience being such a let down means that the Mara!Doctor has also taught him that he's never going to get what he wants, the Doctor's trust and undivided attention, and he just accept that. At least the Doctor is part of his life.
Mara!Doctor is still in Evil Rant Mode, but the script directions here are kind of funny:
Tumblr media
Turlough is embarrassed. You'd think he'd be scared by how obviously wrong this is, or concerned because there's something wrong with the Doctor, but he's embarrassed. The Doctor's antics are ruining their date and attracting attention from strangers.
By this point, Tegan and Nyssa, with Dadda's help, have figured out that the Doctor is possessed and Turlough's alone with him. It's quickly assumed that Turlough's been possessed too, which isn't surprising. It's not even an unfair assumption. The Mara has been going around possessing everyone with a name. Why wouldn't it possess Turlough, especially if it's already possessed the Doctor, someone Turlough would be easily persuaded by and comfortable getting close to.
Tumblr media
The Mara hasn't possessed Turlough yet because it would actually break a pattern. The attempt to possess Nyssa through Tegan was when they were alone in their bedroom. Kerrem was possessed while alone with the Doctor in his office. The Mara doesn't seem to strike in public places. Kerrem screamed when he was possessed, so it would obviously attract attention. The entire time Mara!Doctor's been with Turlough, they've been at a crowded fairground. The Mara is waiting until they're alone...
This happens at the abandoned studio where the Mara hopes to continue its plan for world domination, just bringing Turlough along for the ride. By this point, Turlough has either realized that something's very wrong or is just done with all this bullshit and wants out.
Tumblr media
But, in the abandoned studio, they're alone now. So the Mara can actually try to possess Turlough, which would definitely prevent him from leaving.
Tumblr media
Turlough saw the Mark of the Snake on Tegan's arm and should know that it's associated with the Mara, but he probably never expected to see the Doctor be possessed. He's the Big Good of the universe in Turlough's mind. He protected him for the Black Guardian, basically the Devil. The Mara couldn't possibly be more powerful than that!
Turlough's "I don't know" is similar to his "well" before deciding to go to the fair. He's actually being convinced, more by the Hypnotic Evil Power of the Mara than by anything that's being said. But, it's also the Doctor offering Wealth and Power here...
But, they get interrupted and the Mara!Doctor pulls Turlough into a nearby warehouse.
Tumblr media
Turlough is sort of tempted by the Mara's offer, even after everything else that's happened. We're also back to the double entendre with Nyssa and Tegan in part 1. They're alone together, one of them removes some of their clothing and offers the other basically whatever they want. It stood out with Nyssa and Tegan because it happened in a bedroom. It stands out here because Mara!Doctor took Turlough on a date first. So, if this was a sexual offering, Turlough would totally be up for it, but Mara!Doctor is being too rough with him. Not being a gentleman, just leading him to an abandoned building and grabbing him like that! In his "darkest dreams" it was way more romantic. Worst. Date. Ever.
Okay, I've had my fun.
Anyway, Mara!Doctor locks Turlough in a stall. He has to meet with Rick now, so he doesn't have time to possess Turlough. He can't bring non-possessed Turlough along to the meeting, because he might hinder his plans in some way. But, he can't risk Turlough escaping and tattling to Nyssa and Tegan either. So, he has to lock him up somewhere.
Tumblr media
The Mara!Doctor hurt Turlough. Turlough thought the Doctor would never hurt him. He trusted him. This is when he starts to get really scared.

[Plain text: "As stated in my bio, I do not answer asks on this blog. Send them to my personal blog @levil0vesyou instead! DMs are fine though" End pt.]
Blog directory
So this is only my technical main (due to Tumblr Circumstances, i won't bore you) but I do actually have a lot of blogs, some of them relatively active.
@levil0vesyou is my personal/misc blog, I also sometimes call it my main even though it never was on either account
@quarks-pussy is my star trek blog, despite the url it's not 18+ or purely nsfw
@selfrighteousflowers is my cartoon blog (only cartoons aimed at younger audiences tho, adult cartoons go on the misc nowadays) and also lazytown
@dmitri-ilyich-volodin is my podcast blog (also also Cabin Pressure sometimes)
@thebitchlapin (formerly at-the-thistlespring-tree) is my Dimension 20/Dropout blog
@eating-your-beans is my NBC Community blog (and also Mythic Quest)
@system-arbeitet-korrekt is my StarStarSpace (and occasionally other coldmirror stuff) blog
@not-a-sesame-street-sideblog (added Nov 5th '23) mostly dormant (as of Aug 24th '24)
@transwomansambeckett Quantum Leap (the original one, tho theoretically the reboot would go here too if I watched it) blog (created Nov 18th '23)
@move-over-nine-its-fifteen-time Doctor Who and adjacent media (added June 23rd '24 but existed for a while, I just failed to consistently update this post)
@faggot-md House MD blog (same note as above)
@shortkingchilchuck Dungeon Meshi (same note as above)
@ghoul-for-lucys-dad-2296 Fallout, mostly show so far but I've started playing 4 now so y'know (same note as above) (mostly dormant as of Aug 24th '24 tho I'll use it again if I ever get around to playing New Vegas)
@2-dead-boys-and-1-sad-psychic Dead Boy Detectives (same note as above)
@lines-in-your-trailer Scott Pilgrim, not particularly active (same note as above)
@watchingiasiptoimpressmycrush It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia (same note as above)
@grape-flavoured-wizard I honestly don't know how to explain this one either. (same note as above) (dormant. sorry)
@your-creepy-old-guy Beetlejuice but specifically and exclusively the musical version. Not really more than two or so reblogs from other blogs of mine yet but maybe next time I rewatch my favourite slime tutorial of it I'll start posting properly (same note as above)
@hawkeye-mpreg Mash, obviously. Like the trek blog, not actually 18+ despite the url (same note as above except midnight passed in my time zone so now it's June 24th)
@lassiesloveoflarping Psych blog (added July 6th '24) and I do blame @/under-loch-n-key personally /pos
@hashtag-dads (added Oct 11th '24 after being un-shadowbanned) Dan and Phil blog because I felt it might start being annoying to my personal blog followers how often I post about them there
@fun-burakhovsky-vacation (created and added December 31st '24) Pathologic blog. I haven't finished P2 yet (and don't really plan on playing 1 tho I ofc watched hbomb's book report many times) and 3 isn't out yet but the characters have already moved into my brain rent free and I need somewhere to put posts about them
I have a ton of other side blogs, both on this and on the old account, some of them are simply saved urls, (tumblr made me delete those and then some because they think people still use this site so I'm not allowed to "hoard") some are discontinued and some are secret for a variety of reasons - though I assure you, those reasons are mostly comedy.
I don't exactly have a dni per se but if you have shitty views or I otherwise don't like you, I might block you lol
Last added new blog: December 31st 2024
Last edited this post outside that: December 31st 2024

You seem like a person with amazing music taste, would you like to share thoschei song recs 🥺👉👈
oh i was actually gonna post my dw playlist the other day but i forgor hehe here's the spotify version cos thats the one thats actually accessible and updated lol
the first sixteen (hmmm. fifteen) are the ones that to me Are Very Doctor Who. except for babooshka but some of the lines kinda work and ten is canonically a kate bush girlie so i had to add it lol (same with human behaviour. it fits the doctor esp ten & eleven but also i think ten at least is an art pop kind of girl). and ik ik i could have used the og running up that hill but i like the placebo version better, sue me. '39 is just good time tragedy. obviously spiracle flower face because that amv has me in a chokehold, that and the leonard cohen are the only ones that are thoschei specifically? love will tear us apart as well actually. my name is ruin has specifically thirteen/spymaster vibes to me. spite alone holds me aloft is a little thoschei but also time lord victorious vibes. in search of my rose self explanatory. also i wanna be adored from that elevenamy amv.........
(also eight foot two solid blue is really really funny its stupid as shit but. you'll see what i mean)
some of the ones towards the end are like idk, either theyve been recced to me (i think some of them are from you lol) and arent really genres i like so even though they fit im unlikely to actually listen to them, or i saw them in an amv or something and they weren't that bad but didnt quite vibe somehow. and theres some soundtrack on there too i would have added the entire heaven sent soundtrack OH YEAGH DID YOU KNOW THE ENTIRE HEAVEN SENT SOUNDTRACK IS ON SPOTIFY??? its the third disc of the s9 soundtrack and hhnhgnhgnhnghnghnghnhnghnghngnhhhngng 👍

Thess vs The Co-Workers
So there's some good news - I don't have to work overtime today and I might not have to work overtime anymore. That is ... basically it for good news in the work sphere.
The bad news? Oooooh let me count the ways.
First off, it's entirely possible that I might have to work Saturday. See, Goblin's away again tomorrow. I mean, not that she does all that much anyway, but given how things are going at the moment, it'll be enough.
The reason I say this is because "how things are going at the moment" have devolved into every other person who even touches the typing throwing all the hard shit at me while meandering through the short easy stuff. See, we have some new junior doctors (YES, AGAIN; we have so many more junior doctors than our current typing pool can handle even if we weren't inundated with unexpected absences), and they are both very, very bad at dictating. Guess who gets stuck with them? Not to mention the ones with the difficult accents, the ones who handle complicated cases, and the ones who dictate unnecessary bullshit and make the dictations longer than they need to be? That would be me; everybody's punching bag.
The end of the day today was particularly cheeky, as I'd ploughed through several longer bits of typing already and happened to notice that someone else had taken the other two, which was great, I thought! ...At least until those two ended up back in the queue at 5pm. So someone took them out of the queue, ignored them for a good chunk of the afternoon in favour of short snappy reports, and then went, "Oh, I guess I don't have time to do these ones; back into the queue they go! [Thess] can handle them!"
(Side note: I only had the time to handle one of them because the guy who did the dictation for the twelve-minute nightmare made such a mess of the block key that I spent fifteen minutes trying to figure out what the fuck he was doing before I gave up, bolded the problem areas, saved it to PDF, and emailed it to him - copied to our quality control department as per protocol - with the professional version of "THIS IS A MESS; SORT IT OUT".)
It's only now that Scruffman bothered to tell me that he was having issues with putting in my overtime hours; that apparently I had to if he was signing off on them. Of course, no one has ever actually demonstrated how to do that on our system, but I think I figured it out. I say "I think" because I don't see any evidence that the applications are pending and Scruffman apparently didn't have time to get back to me about whether or not there were any issues. That's a significant chunk of overtime pay, and if I don't get it in this month's paycheque, I'm going to be pissed. Though I guess if push comes to shove, it's extra Christmas present money instead of extra MCM Comic Con money.
So at this point, odds are pretty good that while I may not have to work today or tomorrow, I'll end up putting in a few hours on Saturday. Just because my colleagues (including the new temp, who I shall simply call Newbie; I have seen that this individual exists, though they're taking lessons from Temp insofar as leaving me with the long bullshit goes) are lazy fuckers.
Anyway, point is that I'm not committing to doing anything on Saturday because even if I don't have to work, I am a fucking wreck right now. I hurt very badly, I haven't been sleeping properly, I have a stress headache and sinus pressure that's probably going to turn migrainous fairly soon, and overall it's just not good. Like, at all.
Don't even get me started about what's going on in the UK at the moment. I cannot even think about the shit being spewed at the Tory Party Conference. I'm miserable enough without the reminder about how much this country hates me. I would love to say it's not specifically me they hate, but they do hate almost everything I am - or rather, everything I'm not - read, a British-born able-bodied wealthy cishet white male, since I only have one of those going for me. I don't really want to talk about it but it's there. Lurking. It adds to the stress, y'know? And I need way, way less of that.
But my Placid Plastic Duck Simulator has more ducks thanks to a certain bestie. So that's something.

Doctor Who spoilers about the TARDIS.
I keep seeing people hating on the new TARDIS interior, and honestly? I personally love the hell out of it.
It's very clearly an homage to the classic eras where the TARDIS was white with the round things, with a more simple, yet still cluttered, console with all sorts of switches and levers. It's simplistic in design, just like it had been for the classic who era, and yet this new one is also massive, complicated in ways, a lot like what you see in nuwho.
It's got the dome-like shape going on, it's huge with ramps going every which way, and part of the console honestly reminds me greatly of Eleven's second interior and Twelve's.
It's a lovely, beautiful blend of old and new, just like how Fourteen's screwdriver has elements of former sonic devices (both screwdriver and laser), and even the outside of the TARDIS still hints to the past as it is clearly Thirteen's version!
I know people love the more cluttered, crazy looking versions we got in nuwho, from the corals of Nine and Ten's, to the shiny chrome and glass of Eleven and Twelve's, to whatever the hell cool-ass Meow Wolf looking thing Thirteen had going on, but I LOVE the classic who TARDIS look we have going on now.
It's retro and yet done in a futuristic way in this new interior, bringing the 60s-80s into the 2020s, with little bits and bobs of the 2000's and 2010's sprinkled in. It's perfect for a Doctor who we are watching through specials specifically meant to give us a fun set of adventures during the 60th anniversary. This is a celebration of the past and future of the show, and we need to acknowledge that Doctor Who is sixty years old, it didn't just start in 2005 with Nine after all.
But that's just my opinion, I dunno. I still stand by it, it's a beautiful design and I honestly can't wait to see what Fifteen's will be like. <3 I hope he gets the roundales as well. :D
